Sightings is a collection of six stories by David Bevan, five of which are published for the first time. It also features photographic images created by Maya Sharp in response to the stories. The book is the sixth in a series of collaborations between writers and artists – the first, Interpolated Stories by David Rose and Leah Leaf, was published in 2022.
Set mostly in the South Pennines, these stories offer a glimpse into the lives of characters diverted by the birds they encounter. From a man seeking solace in the rearing of a curlew chick, to the young woman whose family and fate are haunted by an ancient roost of crows, and the young man who becomes dangerously obsessed with the life cycle of the cuckoo, these six stories set out to explore the wonder and strangeness of the elusive creatures that beguile and fascinate us throughout our lives.
